As we’ve said previously, youth international tournaments are always a big shop window – they give young prospects the platform to catch the eye, to grab the attention, and to earn a career-defining transfer.

With that in mind, our resident Transfermarkt-refresher Llew Davies has picked out a few players that have made moves since competing at this summer’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.

I’d just like to preface this by noting that this isn’t a definitive rundown of every player from the U-20 World Cup that have made moves since the tournament ended. This is just a selection, although it does cover quite a lot.

The champions are on the move

Where better to start than with the winners, Uruguay. Unsurprisingly, quite a few of their triumphant squad have made an upward career move in the month or two since they lifted their first-ever U-20 international trophy.

Indeed, Fabricio Díaz, their all-action captain, looks set to make the leap across the Atlantic to transfer masters Brighton & Hove Albion. Numerous outlets in Uruguay are reporting that the 20-year-old is set to sign for them for €8.5 million, plus a potentially lucrative 20% sell-on clause on top.

But let’s not dwell on Brighton too much – we do it enough already. Let’s have a look at those that have actually sealed transfers in recent weeks…
