The New Génération: FIFA U-17 World Cup, Matchday 2

We’re well on the way now. The FIFA U-17 World Cup is so much fun because it gives us the opportunity to discover players we’ve never even heard of, as well as the golden chance to catch up on the acclaimed talents we’ve not watched before.

Matchday 1 was good fun, if a bit disjointed, and Matchday 2 was similarly enjoyable. Teams seem to have acclimated to the brutally humid conditions that November in Indonesia brings, making the games that little bit more continuous and competitive.

And we're off: FIFA U-17 World Cup, Matchday 1
After four long years, the FIFA U-17 World Cup is back. Matchday one didn’t disappoint. From Indonesia’s first goal at a FIFA tournament at any level, to Iran’s incredible comeback win over Brazil, and Senegal’s smash-and-grab victory over Argentina, there is so much to get into.

If it’s shocks you’re after, there weren’t many - if any - in the second round of group stage games. Every team you’d expect to win, did win. Brazil demolished New Caledonia with a whopping 81 shots, Argentina got back on track, the US made it two from two, and the European powerhouses clinched crucial victories to guarantee a place in the last sixteen.

Who’ve we got in our MD2 round-up, I hear you ask? That would be telling, subscribe to find out, but I can confirm that there are 20 player write-ups in total, ranging from a Panamanian centre-backs and Senegalese strikers, to a prolific dribbler and the son of a Bundesliga icon.

Llew Davies and Stephen Ganavas are here to walk you all through it. You won’t find anything as comprehensive as this on the FIFA U-17 World Cup anywhere else on the internet (in English, at least). We promise you that.
