The Ruthless Aggression Era
Monday Night SCOUTED asks if we can ever measure the meta's most important intangible
Monday Night SCOUTED is inspired by my football intake at the weekend and I was taken aback by three things this time around. All three took place on Saturday.
Let's go back a little first. 20 years ago, John Cena ushered in WWE’s Ruthless Aggression Era. I am not a die-hard WWE fan, but I used to be, so I went back and watched his final match. Perhaps it was the nostalgia that crystallised the importance of aggression in my mind. Regardless, as the face of WWE’s Ruthless Aggression Era retired on Saturday night, the term had never felt more apt to describe the relentlessly intense, physical nature of modern football, and that word defined my journey through Saturday. This newsletter is about aggression.

My weekend started with Charlie Hughes. He may well pop up in Tuesday’s Rabbit Hole newsletter but is worth an individual mention. Against Millwall on Saturday afternoon, he delivered a defensive monsterclass.
